As consumers accelerate their use of debit and credit cards as their preferred forms of tender, retailers are faced not only with a dramatic rise in transaction costs resulting from this payment shift, but also with an increasingly sophisticated customer that demands a purchase experience that is efficient, flexible, and intuitive. New payment technologies available to retailers are expanding, and it will be a requirement for retailers to find the correct mix of improved tender management with a more manageable expense over time.
