Leading business application software vendors like Oracle and SAP are right in the middle of a leap from client/server architecture to service-oriented architecture. This means that it is hard to find real-world examples of strategic enterprise deployments of SOA-centric business application packages. However, other vendors, such as Sterling Commerce, have already built their entire applications using the highly configurable and extendable SOA approach. The DHL Exel Supply Chain SeLECT project provides an inspiring SOA case study of how to configure and deploy this multi-enterprise collaboration application across its global supply chain to optimize service parts logistics (SPL).
