Those seeking the shortest path to a solid, defensible MES (or electronic batch record) ROI needn't look any further than cutting costs within the four walls of local production operations. If you're after knock-your-socks-off ROI that moves MES investments to the top of the investment priority list, more homework is required. Cuts in variability, improved compliance, and decreased cycle times lead to predictable product supply. This in turn promotes broader supply network objectives of lower inventory holding costs and more agile manufacturing responsiveness to demand.
