ORTEMS' strength is the detail level at which its products create and manage schedules. The detail and close link to plant events allows users to schedule in process plants and packaging operations. For batch manufacturers, this creates opportunities to schedule at detail recipe execution levels, such as at the S88 master and site-recipe level, and makes ORTEMS an ideal MES partner. The plant optimization focus has already brought ORTEMS an MES partnership with Cube Technology. The evolving relationship with MES positions both applications at the center of the consolidated plant architecture, which is the foundation to support the supply chain. ORTEMS also announced its e-Planning release, which Web enables planning and scheduling information and provides basic, Web-based workflow capability. However, the most interesting aspect is ORTEMS' plans to release the first part of product design simulation capability linked to scheduling. ORTEMS plans for a release by the end of the year. The simulation capability is made possible because ORTEMS' chief technical officer was part of the architectural development for a leading product data management product.
