MicroStrategy rolled out for general availability MicroStrategy 7.0, a major rewrite of its market-leading Relational Online Analytic Processing (ROLAP) engine. MicroStrategy is best known for its ability to handle huge quantities of data that data-intensive firms like Telecommunications and Retail companies require. MicroStrategy 7.0 was improved in four areas:Scale--Clustering permits scaling to millions of users and terabytes of data by allowing several servers to work in tandem. MicroStrategy also has written code that takes advantage of each database vendors' peculiarities to maximize scale.Usability--The interface is Yahoo!-like. Users request reports in everyday English, and reports that are related to the current report are hyperlinked next to the current one.Openness--The Application Programming Interface (API) is open so developers can readily embed MicroStrategy into their applications.Functionality--150 statistical and financial functions, and the ability to create your own. MicroStrategy also offers advanced grouping and sorting and collaborative analytics, which spools processing either to the engine or to the database, depending on which is faster.
