Over the last two years, corporate departments and divisions, impatient for Web applications, have been building their own intranets and extranets. One company we spoke with woke up one morning to find it had 2,000 Websites. Under the pressure of a dipping economy, as the ongoing costs of maintenance and administration shift back to corporate Information Technology (IT), companies are recognizing the need to consolidate resources and reassert control.
