Data Services: Data Access in Service Oriented Architecture

Published: 14 August 2007

Analyst(s): Lyn Robison

Within service oriented architecture (SOA), data services can make data safely accessible enterprise-wide. Data services can make data more secure and easier to reach at the same time. Data services' loosely coupled nature makes it possible for intermediaries to enable and control data access through data transformation, cleansing, security, routing, and auditing. This mediation can be dictated by the enterprise's data management policies, which can be stored in central policy repositories. In this Application Platform Strategies overview, Analyst Lyn Robison explains how to apply service-oriented principles to data access.
