Summary

No longer limited to database design, data modelers have become data architects. Vendors of leading data-modeling tools have taken notice. While there remains a marketplace for traditional data-modeling tools, large enterprises will increasingly seek out tools with broader features. Vendors are adding features either through internal development or through acquisition and integration. Vendors are also introducing innovative pricing and packaging models that make it easier for customers to obtain software that supports the full range of data-architect responsibilities. In this report, Senior Analyst Joe Maguire scrutinizes these trends in market-leading data-modeling tools.
