Analyst(s): Marcus Collins

Summary

Database consolidation is increasingly used to reduce the complexity of the database landscape and as a means to bring escalating IT operational costs under control. The structured approach and technical considerations outlined in this guidance document will reduce the overall risk of a consolidation initiative. In addition, the supporting processes outlined in this guidance document, notably building an accurate and comprehensive application portfolio, should be an integral part of the IT operational processes because database consolidation will be a continuous process executed while hardware is refreshed or while the business environment changes.
