Analyst(s): Nik Simpson

Summary

x86 blade servers are popular with server vendors that continue to develop and market them as the future of the x86 server platform. However, blade servers can potentially lock IT organizations into a particular vendor's blade architecture and walled garden of add-on suppliers and management software. As a result, IT organizations must carefully select a blade server vendor because changing to another blade vendor means writing off investments in the existing blade platform. In this assessment, Research Director Nik Simpson outlines a systematic way for customers to evaluate x86 blade vendors and products.
