Impacts and Recommendations

  • The importance that apps and services play in the device business is accelerating. This will shift consumer attention to the value that hardware brings to the user experience and away from how impressive the hardware actually is.
  • All in one (AIO) PCs look at taking advantage of Windows 8 and Touch to claim a place in the computing continuum. This transformation will allow them to become one of the screens we interact with on a regular basis.
  • Display size and clarity are key to hardware design and user enjoyment of content. As devices have grown in capabilities, displays have started to become a limiting factor. Flexible displays allow for edgy designs and new use cases by increasing usability and purpose.
  • Nvidia's Project Shield provides a glimpse into the future of hard-core, portable gaming, but will not threaten sales of handheld game consoles, phones or tablets in the next three years.
