Impacts and Recommendations

  • Laboratory information management system (LIMS) vendors now have "light" experiment-centric capabilities and have bridged into the electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) space, which creates opportunities for single enterprise solutions.
    • ELN vendors have made investments in quality assurance (QA)/quality control (QC) templates and sample-centric procedural execution capabilities that bridge into the compliant LIMS space, which can result in the elimination of some LIMS
  • R&D and manufacturing lab informatics providers are on a convergent trajectory, which creates an opportunity to leverage single systems across multiple phases of product development.
    • Laboratory informatics providers are increasing the footprint and capabilities, and creating new options and trade-offs
