Agenda Overview for Program and Portfolio Management, 2014

Published: 09 January 2014

Analyst(s): Donna Fitzgerald

Gartner's 2014 PPM research will focus on how PPM leaders can adjust to changing performance criteria. Where providing visibility and enforcing consistency and controls were rewarded in the past, there will just be a single significant metric in the future — value contributed.

Table Of Contents

Key Issues

  • How can project portfolio leaders build a broad portfolio capability that allows management to identify and invest in the most valuable and/or strategic initiatives?
  • How can PMO leaders effectively move from metrics focused on consistency and visibility toward a metric focused on value contributed?
  • How can PPM leaders help their organizations effectively move from project to true program management to ensure the successful delivery of a constant stream of value on large efforts?
  • How can EPMO leaders continue to improve the realized value of the enterprise portfolio, and ensure that complex, enterprisewide programs are successfully executed across the three dimensions of organizational change, redesigned processes and new technological capabilities?
