Impacts and Recommendations

  • Advances in OLED display technology for smartphones and wearable devices have led to flexible TVs, which are an important development for display manufacturers given that the current structure of LCD screens has little flexibility
  • The manufacturing process for OLED TV panels involves fewer process steps than that for LCD panels and could therefore reduce manufacturing costs for display manufacturers, once yields improve and production reaches a high level of volume
  • Curved TVs may not attract many consumers for use in the home, but the ability of curved and flexible digital signs to catch the eye of passersby should interest marketing executives
