Impacts and Recommendations

  • Windows 10 for PCs fixes the Start menu and other interface problems introduced with Windows 8, making it the likely choice for IT leaders to adopt and implement before the end of Windows 7 support in January 2020
  • New security and management features in Windows 10 for PCs will require endpoint and security managers to reassess current security posture, consider replacing existing third-party products and implement additional server infrastructure to attain the benefits
  • Microsoft has three update options with Windows 10 on PCs, and organizations will need to decide which to adopt: (1) at the pace Microsoft delivers them; (2) on a delayed cadence, running about four months behind delivery of updates; or (3) as part of a long-term servicing update, which Microsoft will declare periodically
