Summary

Taiwan announced three new fixed line operators on 19 March 2000, sounding the death knell for state-owned Chunghwa Telecom's (CHT) monopoly. The new operators are Taiwan Fixed Network, New Century InfoCom and Eastern Multimedia Telecommunication. The fourth bidder, SaveCom InfoCom, led by a local consortium and Mabuhay Holdings of the Philippines, was rejected.
