On 24 May 2000, CSC announced its acquisition of the IT services division of Australian company Broken Hill Proprietary (BHP) after a six-month bidding competition with EDS. As part of the agreement, in a seven-year contract said to be valued at $470 million, CSC will manage BHP's outsourced IT function, delivering consulting, systems integration and IT management services. CSC's acquisition of BHP IT includes all 1,700 of BHP IT's employees and contractors, as well as the transfer of assets and services. Following the acquisition, CSC will have a combined total of 5,700 employees in Australia.
