Consumer technologies are becoming so advanced that, before too long, we could be leading fully immersive digital lifestyles, thanks to devices that tackle both simple and complex tasks seamlessly. But CES 2015's exhibits indicated that product managers still have significant challenges to overcome.

  • Advances in consumer devices that create the potential for people to incorporate the digital world more fully and harmoniously into their lives put pressure on product managers to fulfill this promise by delivering usability, interoperability and seamless app experiences
  • Lack of demand for IoT sensor devices has resulted in vendors pushing what are effectively "mashups" of connected "point" solutions — a shortcoming product managers must rectify with more integrated offerings that solve real-world problems
  • The second generation of wearable devices shows improvements in design and ecosystem, but product managers still have to communicate attractive value propositions to stimulate demand
