Impacts and Recommendations

  • Rapid advances in the video capabilities of smartphones, and the incorporation of cameras into wearable devices such as smart glasses and smart watches, make it harder for vendors to sell action camcorders, despite the many attachments and high frame rates that make them attractive
  • Most action camcorders now support high frame rates and resolutions, so it's getting harder for vendors to differentiate their products
  • The rise of wearables offers complementary opportunities for semiconductor vendors currently targeting high-resolution and high-frame-rate video-processing capabilities for action camcorders
