Many organizations undertake legacy application migration projects and struggle with delivering on time and on budget. AD managers must establish milestones based on knowledge of the existing business rules and test cases to demonstrate this functional equivalence.

Table Of Contents

  • A Lack of Understanding of Extant Business Rules in Legacy Systems Is One of the Biggest Contributors to Modernization Project Failures
    • Milestone 1: A comprehensive list of the business process capabilities and rules that form the foundation for functional equivalence
    • Milestone 2: A clear understanding of the nonfunctional (quality of service) requirements
  • A Lack of Repeatable Test Cases Limits an Organization's Ability to Demonstrate Functional Equivalence in an Objective, Measurable Way
    • Milestone 3: A comprehensive, risk-managed test plan. This requires that the process and rules be documented in a "testable" form.
  • Overdependence on End-User Testing Introduces Substantial Project Delays and Cost Overruns
    • Milestone 4: Completion of the test plans, or progress toward completion.
  • Conclusion
