The digital video recorder enables consumers to record the TV programs of their interest in a simple and efficient manner and to turn the popular joke of "problems consumers have faced with programming their VCR" into one relating to a bad product. The DVR equipped with a hard drive instead of a tape for recording and replaying programs breaks new ground on the old tape-based recording media. By enabling consumers to personalize the programs they watch, the DVR finally sets the trend for WWYWWYW.
