Summary

CICS had become a widely used transaction processing monitor for both small- and large-scale commercial applications in all business sectors. Typical applications include retail distribution, banking, insurance, stock brokering, order entry, airline reservations, automatic teller machines, and process control systems. The flagship mainframe CICS/ESA version, CICS Transaction Server for OS/390 Release 3, has enhancements designed to support today's Internet and e-business styles of computing. Also, there is a significantly enhanced version of CICS Transaction Server for VSE/ESA, which offers many of the same features of the CICS/ESA version. Connectivity to CICS server applications are provided from client desktops running OS/2, Windows NT, Windows 95 and 98, AIX, and Solaris. Some new features provided include support for WebSphere 2000 and the Java programming language.
