Ericsson WebSwitch 2000

Published: 13 July 2000

Analyst(s): Rich Costello

As an IP-PBX communications server and an H.323-compatible gateway, the Ericsson WebSwitch 2000 provides an IP-based alternative that may complement or replace a legacy PBX or key system for small and midsize businesses in telecommuting, branch office, and campus environments utilizing standard analog telephones and H.323 terminals. For customers with existing PBXes, the WebSwitch 2000 can be configured initially as an H.323 gateway, enabling enterprises to use existing infrastructures to interconnect traditional PBX-based networks with IP-based networks and terminals. At a later stage, the WebSwitch can then be upgraded to become an iPBX. A single WebSwitch 2000 can currently support from 10 to 96 end users, which can be a combination of circuit-switched and IP-based users.
