SMS will have a new owner--Siemens Corporation, a subsidiary of Siemens AG--in a deal that will be finalized as soon as both companies receive the go-ahead from the FTC and German antitrust authorities. SMS's lab application, formerly OPENLab, has a new name and face--SMS NOVIUS Lab--joining the growing list of SMS products that are part of the company's NOVIUS suite of client/server applications. The SMS NOVIUS Lab Base system provides support for basic laboratory functions in General Laboratory, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology, and like some if its competitors, SMS supports blood bank, anatomic pathology, and billing functions through third-party applications.
