Wind River Systems BSD/OS, Internet Server Edition, and FreeBSD Operating Systems

Wind River Systems, known for its embedded systems software, acquired the software assets of Berkeley Software Design, Inc. (BSDi), in April 2001. BSDi was the creator of the Unix-like BDS/OS commercial operating system, and distributor of one of the most popular open source FreeBSD implementations. The BSDs--as they are collectively known--are designed for and widely used in supporting Internet infrastructures. As such, they fuel many of the Web's most demanding Web sites. But under BSDi, the BSDs were largely considered niche operating systems. Will Wind River Systems be able to effectively leverage the BSDs to a broader audience?
