Alcatel acquired Xylan Corp. in April 1999 and formed Alcatel Internetworking, Inc., headquartered at Xylan's California location. Other Alcatel acquisitions that now fall under the Alcatel Internetworking umbrella include Assured Access, Internet Devices, and Packet Engines. The company now claims to offer a complete end-to-end IP, ATM, and WAN internetworking solution for enterprises and service providers. The OmniStack, which uses the same Wide Area Switching Modules (WSM), is for the branch office.
