Transaction Processing Monitors and Transaction Processing: Perspective

Published: 25 January 2001

ID: G0090542

Analyst(s): Alea Fairchild, Mary I. Hubley

While the basics of transaction processing (TP) and TP monitors remain much the same, recent trends in the computer industry have meant a change in focus for the TP industry. The most important trends include the use of the Internet for Web transactions, and the acceptance and use of TP in the Windows NT/Windows 2000 environment, based on increasing business user comfort with scalability and security. The future of TP monitors is in the area of application servers, which are easier to use and program and can include similar features as TP monitors.
