Summary

Octane2 is the midrange Unix workstation from SGI. The workstation is based on a cross-bar switch architecture, which when coupled with the high-performance peripheral interface and memory bandwidth provides a product well suited to environments such as digital content creation. Octane2 uses the MIPS R12000A processors and can be configured as either a uni- or dual-processor workstation. Graphics are available in the form of SGI's VPro V6 and V8 accelerators. SGI's 64-bit Unix operating system, IRIX, is available as standard. List pricing for Octane2 starts at US$19,995.
