Merchandising systems are playing a key role in the transformation of retail from a play-your-hunches game to a more analytical activity. The goal of retail, however, remains the same today as it did 100 years ago: to drive traffic and sales, generate return visits, ensure greater spending and increase "wallet share." Retailers need to have the right item at the right place at the right time to accomplish this goal. Merchandising management systems provide retailers with the tools to accomplish this. IT service providers can take advantage of retailers' desire for these sophisticated systems by assisting them in their integration and implementation needs.
