Virtual private network (VPN) solutions are one way carriers can expand their service offerings. The Cisco Systems VPN 5000 Concentrator product line includes three purpose-built VPN products targeted at the carrier-class market. The VPN 5008 Concentrator is a modular, eight expansion-slot chassis capable of supporting 40,000 simultaneous tunnels with an encryption throughput of 700 Mbps. The VPN 5002 Concentrator is a modular, two expansion-slot chassis capable of supporting 10,000 simultaneous tunnels, with an encryption throughput of 190 Mbps. The VPN 5001 Concentrator is a fixed-configuration product capable of supporting 1,500 simultaneous tunnels and has an encryption throughput of 50 Mbps.
