Impacts and Recommendations

  • CFOs ranked significant cost reduction as a higher priority than generating more revenue/customer value when asked about the impact of digital on their business, suggesting that CFOs may see digital as an incremental improvement through technology, rather than the transformative nature that digital creates
  • Only 28% of CFOs expect a "significant" level of business transformation by 2020, compared with 46% of CEOs and other executives, indicating that IT investment portfolios will continue to be heavily weighted with more traditional IT-enabled initiatives
  • CFOs have a significantly lower view of IT's ability to meet upcoming challenges than CEOs, suggesting that CIOs have not done enough to demonstrate the impact of IT investments on financial and business metrics
