Concur is choosing how it leverages and defines its relationship with SAP. IT leaders supporting Concur evaluations and implementations will naturally gain the most if they are already SAP customers, but non-SAP customers will also benefit from the new organization structure.

Impacts and Recommendations

  • SAP Business Suite customers will gain improved exception handling and deeper integration from a new native integration option between Concur and SAP Business Suite
  • SAP customers will find preferential pricing as a result of SAP's Concur acquisition, but procurement teams looking for a harmonization of SAP/Concur contractual terms and conditions will need to wait
  • All Concur customers will benefit from SAP's portfolio of technology and resources (such as analytics), because Concur is leveraging SAP to accelerate and enhance its product roadmap and focus rather than change its established direction
  • Invoice and payment capabilities now overlap between SAP Ariba and Concur; IT leaders using both solutions can (in select cases) consolidate, but most companies using both solutions are unlikely to change the status quo
