Impacts and Recommendations

  • The advent of virtualization and subsequent automation of fulfilment and assurance functions increases the importance of policy management for CSPs, and failure in realizing it can adversely impact new business and operating models
  • Traditional policy management solutions in CSPs have been limited to controlling network access quality and charging (PCRF), and are therefore not well suited to the demands of digital, virtualized network operating models
  • Recent vendor and industry led initiatives to augment policy management to orchestration and automation don't yet go far enough to span the needs across business, services and resource layers, meaning that CSPs are left open to reduced efficiency
