Analyst(s): Roger Williams , Victoria Barber

Impacts and Recommendations

  • Traditional ITAM taxonomies are no longer fit for purpose, as growing dependence on external cloud services, IT/OT convergence, IoT and the emergence of digital business mean that IT leaders no longer have purview over the technology assets that will increasingly determine business outcomes
  • The growth in business unit IT, the increasing prevalence of digital technology embedded in non-IT systems, and a lack of management accountability of these new technology assets are driving stakeholder confusion over ITAM's scope, resulting in dangerous lapses in oversight
