At least eight network and network security vendors have public notifications about a specific defective component that could cause equipment failure. Months after the initial notification, many I&O leaders are unaware of the need to assess their risk and plan to replace impacted devices.

Impacts and Recommendations

  • A widely used component that Gartner estimates is deployed in up to 500,000 network and security products has been found to be defective, meaning that I&O leaders may experience premature equipment failure
    • Prioritize risk and replace products to avoid system failures
  • While replacement products will be free for I&O leaders under service contracts, enterprises will face unplanned and significant operational costs that may be prohibitively expensive, time-consuming or represent too much business risk
    • Rearchitect branch office devices
