EA can no longer effectively perform architecture governance through its architecture review board (ARB) alone. Not only is this approach becoming increasingly difficult for EA to manage, but it is also often an inefficient use of ARB resources and is harming EA's relationships with business and IT partners. Instead, the function should proactively invest in a reference architecture program, partner with subject matter experts and solution delivery teams to optimize solution quality, and triage how it and the ARB ensure high quality solutions. These steps will allow the EA function to reduce the need for reactive and corrective measures that slow down delivery.
