Tesoro has had a difficult time hiring architects with the right skills for today’s needs. Therefore, they pursued talent with the right skills from unorthodox paths. Tesoro hires interns into EA, gives them meaningful work and evaluates them on their potential, with the aim to hire some once they graduate from college into junior architect positions. They also hire recent graduates or people with only a few years of experience on the theory that they come in with rare, hard-to-train skills the organization needs, and can learn the IT skills later.
