Summary

More than 40% of program managers lack the skills required to be effective, and most PMOs struggle to hire high-performing program managers. PMOs often focus too heavily on external certifications and amount of prior experience, and wind up filtering out the best program manager candidates. Progressive PMOs emphasize the leadership responsibilities of the role over process management, and screen candidates on the Entrepreneurial skills and behaviors that drive program manager effectiveness.
