Long-term talent planning considerably improves the information security function's ability to flex in response to unexpected changes in the information security, business, and organizational environments. However, most CISOs only build talent forecasts—short-to medium-term predictions of specific talent needs that will arise as a result of vacancies in the function. By instead building a strategic workforce plan, CISOs will be able to fill open positions more quickly, respond to external changes more effectively, and adapt to staff departures far more fluidly.
