Most security functions already have competency models, but they are often incorrect or inadequately implemented. CEB's quantitative analysis of more than 350 security professionals at over 45 organizations revealed a set of competencies that are the most powerful predictor of security staff performance: Business Results Orientation, Decision-Making, and Organizational Awareness. To improve hiring outcomes and drive improvements in the performance of existing staff, CISOs should devote talent management resources to increasing the prevalence of these competencies on the information security team.
