In this research, we answer the question "How are common areas such as infrastructure or ERP funded in a product line model?" One approach is to establish a consumption baseline for each product line using metrics — such as number of users, sites, and systems supported. This baseline can then be modified according to the changes anticipated at the systems level, in customer markets, or among vendors. The costs are aggregated into a single budget while retaining visibility into the cost to support individual product lines.
