In this research, we answer the question “What are the key considerations when designing survey questions?” Our research on survey question design uncovered three key takeaways: (1) choose question types that fit the research question and minimize the response burden on participants; (2) ensure that every participant interprets each question the same way and as it was intended; and (3) order the questions in a way that eases participants into the survey and flows logically.
