Summary

This summary contains input from thirty-two members regarding the approaches they are taking to report cybersecurity updates to their board of directors. We begin this summary with an overview of the frequency at which board meetings take place and the frequency at which cybersecurity discussions take place at these meetings. We then examine the format used to report cybersecurity to the board, as well as the cybersecurity, risk, trust, and privacy metrics communicated. Next, we identify both the roles responsible for reporting the state of cybersecurity to board and other groups within members' organizations apart from board that receive cybersecurity updates. We close the summary with members' recommendations and learnings, which include best practices for effectively communicating the state of cybersecurity to the board and pitfalls to avoid in the process.
