This summary contains input from 25 members about the financial implications of digital transformation. We begin this summary with a look at members' shifting IT spend ratio between "operate" (efforts spent on "keeping the lights on" or running the business) and "innovate" (efforts spent on innovating, growing, or transforming the business) activities. Next, we review respondents' approaches to funding innovation – namely by cutting costs and reinvesting savings, or by increasing overall IT budgets. Finally, we survey the level of IT spend happening outside of the IT budget and specifically examine the increasing establishment of digital-focused business units and their impact on the IT organization.
