Summary

Management and protection of intellectual property (IP) is usually handled by legal teams. Unfortunately involving legal teams in procurement processes complicates the sourcing process and inflates timelines, ultimately affecting supplier relationships, reducing innovation and the willingness to share information. We suggest developing a model for structuring IP oversight that transfers critical skills and management responsibility to less costly and more responsive procurement staff.
