Summary
This summary contains input from 17 members on their experiences with a variety of next-generation networking technologies, including software-defined networking (SDN), software-defined wide-area networking (SD-WAN), network function virtualization (NFV), network-as-a-service (NaaS), and others. We begin this summary by discussing the technologies members use for WAN, wireless, and network security, including members’ service providers and the number of remote office locations connected to their global networks. Next, we thoroughly examine the implementation of SDN, SD-WAN, NFV, and NaaS at member organizations and discuss the network-monitoring tools members use. We close with a review of members’ plans for implementing additional networking technologies. As this survey is a refresh of the 2016 report by the Consult the Board on Next Generation Networking, we have included comparisons in trends where applicable.
