Gartner TalentNeuron is a web-based platform that provides real-time labor market data on 90% of the world’s GDP. Using a combination of machine learning and statistical analysis, TalentNeuron transforms data from over 65,000 sources into insights that help business leaders make data-based talent decisions.

TalentNeuron helps executives and HR professionals answer questions like:

  • What is the size of the marketing talent pool in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.?

  • Who else is looking for financial advisors in New York City, New York, U.S.?

  • What is the cost of engineering talent in London, U.K., compared to Warsaw, Poland?

  • What are the most in-demand data science skills?

  • Where else can I look for diverse talent?

As shown in the following figures, TalentNeuron can be used to isolate critical talent hotspots, explore skill relationships and identify in-demand skills for competitors.

The TalentNeuron data used in Gartner research comes from job postings, censuses and government statistical bureaus. TalentNeuron also offers custom research engagements that incorporate data from other sources, such as social profiles.

Some of our most commonly referenced data points include:

  • Demand (number of job postings)To calculate demand from employers or for specific skills, we collect job postings from thousands of sources, including job boards, corporate sites, partner feeds, news sites, staffing websites and applicant tracking systems. Every day, we process an average of 1.3 million job postings in 21 different languages.

  • Supply (number of candidates)To estimate the supply of a particular type of talent, we rely primarily on national government censuses and labor market surveys. To obtain more precise and timely supply estimates for attributes, like skills, we augment this government data with demand data from job postings.

  • DiversityOur gender and ethnic diversity data (currently available for the United States and South Africa) comes from the equal employment opportunity (EEO) survey, administered by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the american community survey (ACS), administered by the U.S. Census Bureau.

  • SalaryWe use artificial intelligence to identify and extract salaries from job postings. These are added to our historical salary database, which as of 2020 includes 600 million salary values from the past four years. We also rely on statistical modeling to predict salaries for job postings that don’t include a salary.
