Summary
Continuous integration/continuous deployment of code has become key to enabling effective life cycle management of software-defined cars. This research discusses Step 2 of how CIOs achieve this — by creating a vehicle software register to document the code used and how the code changes over time.

Overview
Key Findings
Automakers can quickly document the “as-built” makeup of vehicle software and firmware as a vehicle rolls off the production line by using configuration principles and tools. This will act as a baseline from which future changes to code and parameters will be measured.
The immaturity of the software-defined vehicle concept means that few automakers maintain a vehicle software register to track the “as-maintained” software and firmware code and version history deployed on vehicles through their lifetime.
Automakers are beginning to make investments into cloud-based customer profiles to deliver digital personalization of vehicles.
