This Consult the Board survey summary features perspectives from 22 Information Risk Management Research Board members regarding their USB blocking policies. It examines members’ methods for enforcing a USB blocking policy, the exemptions they grant, their exception handling process, and challenges with the policy.
Do members allow access to storage devices on corporate assets? How do they overcome the challenges with their USB blocking policy?
Almost all respondents (21 of 22, or 95%) have blocked the use of USB mass storage devices in their enterprise.
Most respondents (17 of 21, or 81%) face minor to moderate challenges with their USB blocking policy.
Respondents’ challenges are related to user acceptance of the USB blocking policy (5 of 12) and exception handling (4 respondents).
