Second-Generation Portlet Standards Should Be Used for Portlet Development but Aren't the Whole Story

Enterprises should leverage the second generation of portlet standards, although they won't solve all portlet development needs. Vendors' proprietary portlet models will continue but, over the long term, consumer Web widgets will likely provide a long-hoped-for portal component aftermarket.
